What You'll Do at Each Stop

Each stop is designed around an activity — you choose the locations that work for your area.

How This Quest Works

This quiz walk leads you through a series of historically significant stops. At each one, you'll read a short briefing and then answer multiple-choice questions about what you see and what happened there. No prior knowledge needed — the clues are all around you.

Stop 1 — The Grand Entrance

You begin at a prominent public building or monument — the kind of place people walk past every day without looking up. Your first task is to observe the facade closely.

What you'll do:

  • Read a brief history of the structure and why it was built
  • Answer a quiz question about the architectural style (e.g. neoclassical, baroque, Art Deco)
  • Spot a specific detail on the building — a date carved in stone, an inscription, or a coat of arms
  • Bonus question: guess which century it was constructed

Stop 2 — The Old Square

You move on to a historic square or plaza that has been the center of public life for centuries. Markets, protests, celebrations — this place has seen it all.

What you'll do:

  • Learn about a key event that took place in this square
  • Answer a question about who the statue or fountain in the center commemorates
  • Identify which surrounding buildings are the oldest based on visual clues
  • Fun fact round: match historical dates to events that happened here

Stop 3 — The Hidden Passage

Now you head off the main path to find a quieter, lesser-known historical site — a narrow alley, a forgotten courtyard, or an old gate.

What you'll do:

  • Discover the story of why this passage exists and who used it
  • Answer a quiz question about a historical figure connected to this spot
  • Look for architectural evidence of the building's original purpose (e.g. old shop signs, iron fittings, worn stone steps)
  • Trivia challenge: was this area residential, commercial, or military?

Stop 4 — The Waterfront or Bridge

You reach a point near water — a river, canal, or harbor — where trade, transport, and daily life have intersected for generations.

What you'll do:

  • Read about how this waterway shaped the city's development
  • Answer questions about historic trade routes and what goods passed through here
  • Identify the oldest bridge or structure visible from your vantage point
  • Timeline challenge: put a series of local events in chronological order

Stop 5 — The Monument

Your final stop is a significant monument or memorial. This is where you put everything you've learned together.

What you'll do:

  • Read the full story behind the monument and who or what it honors
  • Complete a final multi-part quiz covering all five stops
  • Answer a "big picture" question: how do these landmarks connect to tell the story of this place?
  • Receive your score and see how you compare to other quiz-takers
