How You Could Design Your Experience

Here's an example of how the missions can be designed - customize your experience to fit your location and theme.

How this Quest works

In a photo challenge, participants receive an assignment at each stop and submit a photo as evidence. Golden hour β€” the hour after sunrise or before sunset β€” provides warm, soft light that makes every photo magical. The evidence type is set per stop.

Stop 1 β€” The Silhouette

Start at a location where participants can photograph toward the sun. Backlit silhouette photos create dramatic images right away.

Title: Silhouette Against the Sky

Description: Position yourself so the sun is behind your subject β€” a tree, a statue, or a person. Expose for the sky, not the subject, and let the foreground go dark. Capture the perfect silhouette against the golden sky.

Evidence: Photo

Stop 2 β€” The Golden Portrait

Surfaces that catch golden side-light offer beautiful portrait opportunities. A warm wall or fence works perfectly.

Title: Golden Light

Description: Find a surface that catches the warm light. Photograph a face, a figure, or an object lit by warm side-light. Use the shadow side to create depth and drama.

Evidence: Photo

Stop 3 β€” The Long Shadow

Flat surfaces under a low sun create dramatic, elongated shadows. Perfect for a creative composition assignment.

Title: Dance of Shadows

Description: Make the shadows the main subject β€” not the objects casting them. Look for interesting shadow shapes: bicycles, fences, people walking. Shoot from above or at ground level to emphasize the length of the shadows.

Evidence: Photo

Stop 4 β€” The Reflection

Reflective surfaces β€” puddles, windows, cars β€” create a magical mirror world during golden hour.

Title: The Mirror World

Description: Capture the golden hour reflected in an unexpected surface β€” a puddle, a window, or a car hood. Get down low for the best results. A light breeze on water creates an impressionist effect.

Evidence: Photo

Stop 5 β€” The Last Light

Finish at an open viewpoint. Witnessing the sunset gives a natural and emotionally charged ending.

Title: The Last Light

Description: Capture the transition from gold to blue β€” the moment when day becomes evening. Take a series of shots as the light changes. Don't put the camera away right after sunset β€” the blue hour that follows has its own magic.
